While talking to our favourite tour driver on the way back from the boing trip, he told us about a tour of the lakes of Seattle. So we went looking. Argosy cruises were down on the wharf, not far from our hotel. When we got there, they were about to leave. Perfect.
A short bus-ride to the bottom end of Lake Union, and we were off.
One of the coolest things we saw were the floating houses on the lake.
You may recognise this house, although we weren't close enough for my camera.
No? How about this one. Stolen from online.
Any guys who know the answer must be more pathetic than I am.
It's the house Tom Hanks used in "Sleepless in Seattle". The ultimate chick-flick.
Despite the obvious gender issues, how cool would it be to have a floating house. It could easily be the coolest house in Queenstown. Or Wanaka.
Can you imagine the local council's reaction if plans for one of these came across their desk? Awesome!!
What about Christchurch? Not at the beach. Tidal issues. What about on any section around town?
Do this. Buy a section. Dig it out. Make a swimming pool to cover the entire section. Then build one of these on top, obviously smaller than the pool, so that we can swim off the deck all the way around the house.
How cool would that be? Forget cool. Earthquake proof? I think so too.
