I may have asked this before, but it warrants another mention.
What is with Amrikan toilets?
It's bad enough that they flush the wrong way. They are on the wrong end of the planet, so I guess they can't do much about that. Everything important happens backwards for them.
But they certainly can do something about the water level.
I don't know about anybody else, but it certainly scared the crap out of me the first time I saw the tide coming to meet me. Maybe that's the point. Get the juices flowing, and move on.
Maybe it's some futile version of the whole "glass half full" optimistic approach to life.
