Checking out the neighbourhood

Didn't venture far from the hotel. Walked around the block. The hotel was built in 1903, so I assume the neighbouring properties were too. Maybe even older. That's where the similarity ends. Like those other properties we saw on the drive in, these buildings were clearly very flash in their day. That day is a distant memory. In most cities in the world, these buildings would need to be fully renovated before they reached the required standard to be demolished. But here, they will keep finding tenants until the building collapses.

It's not easy walking around the block.
Since the attacks, all footpaths have been blocked. You have to walk on the street with the courteous drivers. Access to the Gateway to India is also blocked from every direction except one.

This gate is on the other side of the hotel. It used to be the entrance, and is now permanently closed.
