Thomas the Tank Engine

After all of those tunnels, we ended up in a little town called Tirana for lunch (still in Italy).

After lunch, we boarded a train back to Switzerland. It’s called the Bernina Express. Not a sewing machine in sight. 🤷‍♂️

It’s the way back to Switzerland via the Bernina Pass (quelle surprise).

There’s a lot of zigging and zagging, and a lot of tunnels punched through. There’s not a lot of distance covered, but there is a lot of height. This becomes obvious when the beautiful valley below you gets smaller and smaller, every time you see it.

There are a couple of open-sided carriages right at the back, so the view is more expansive. You can also see the tunnels coming, too.

There is the odd glacier-fed lake, just for good measure.

And the odd waterfall.

On the other side of the train ride is St Moritz, back in Switzerland.

Then it was straight into a buggy being pulled by 2 horses, and a leisurely meander up a valley.

Which included the sounds and smells of the country

Cow bells in Switzerland.

I doubt that it’s a coincidence that the vest of the guy driving the horses says quite clearly “schittenfarten”. There is a sling tied between the tail of the horse and the wagon, specifically to catch at least the schitten.

After that it’s back on the bus and to the hotel. The bus had kept pace with us, and we spotted him a couple of times on the way.
