It’s off again in the morning, this time to Lucerne. The Germans spell it Luzern, but we won’t hold that against them.
We get off the bus in what appears to be the middle of town, with lots of shopping and food options in sight. Oh, and a lake.
After we find some lunch, we all pile on to a small ferry, for a ride across the lake.
Once we get there, we meet the bus again, for a short trip to the base of a mountain called Stanserhorn
Here we get into another train, which takes us a little way up the hill, straight line. It’s pulled by cable, so they call it a funicular. Just like the one at Monserrat, but not so steep.
The top of the funicular is just a waystation. Next is a cable car.
Unlike any other cable car in the world, this one does not hang from a cable above. Instead, the cabin straddles between cables mounted on the sides. The 5m width of the cabin helps to create probably the smoothest cable car ride in the world.
So smooth in fact, and so uncluttered on the roof, that there is an observation deck on the roof!
Think about that for a moment…
You’re travelling over 1100m up the side of a mountain, and you’re standing on the top of a cable car.
To quote my beautiful wife, “you can fuck right off!!” I concur. I’ll leave that kind of shenanigans to Tom Cruise, thanks. Visions of Homer Simpson falling down a cliff. Doh, doh, doh, all the way down.
We’ll stay inside, where we’ll be safely crushed by tons of steel if it falls. Painless.
Not a bad view from the top.

Reminds me of Queenstown....
