Alert the Media

We found a slice of Madrid in Barcelona.

Remember I mentioned the Rambla? A busy street full of bars and restaurants. It’s one of those wider streets that has a single lane down each side ( often with both lanes going the same way), and a wide island in between.

The novelty here ( at least to me) is that those restaurants have taken over the island with seating.

Waiters are constantly running across that single traffic lane with plates of food and trays of drinks. What could go wrong?

But that’s not the slice of Madrid I was telling you about.

A couple of blocks up the Rambla from the street our hotel is on, we come to a cross street. This one has been pedestrianised (is that a word?) as far as I can see.

We hang a left and go a couple of blocks to an intersection. Pedestrianised in all four directions.

Not the big-arsed plazas of Madrid. Not here, anyway. But a taste of it. And lots of cafes and restaurants to choose from. What a great vibe.

On this pedestrian street, we noticed a school. It appears to be a row of tiny rooms where a tutor teaches English or basketweaving. Or Tibetan sudoku.

Don’t know how it works. Maybe a tutor can set up shop and hire a room for an hour a week. No idea.
