After we finished at Sangria, we ubered back to an Indian restaurant a couple of blocks from we we had been staying. Sarah discovered them the night we got here, the day before yesterday. We went there for dinner, and the resident expert judged it to be excellent.
So we were back for lunch. At around 14 oclock. That’s early for lunch in this country. Here, lunch is somewhere between 14 and 17 oclock, and dinner not before 21.
So after lunch, we wandered back to the hotel, got our bags out of cold storage, and got a ride to the new hotel.
This is an even better area.
Two big avenues, 150m apart, and we are halfway between. To our right is a street called ‘Rambla’, where people, well, ramble, I guess. A famous street to walk down. Restaurants, bars and shopping up the wazoo.
To our left is Paseo de Gracia, one of the main shopping avenues. Passage of Grace? Probably.
Just around the corner is a big plaza. Unlike the ones we found in Madrid, where the plaza is wall-to-wall pedestrian, this is wrapped in a square of traffic. Many plazas here are just big-arsed roundabouts, often with a fountain and sculpture that would make Gucci giggle in the middle, surrounded by a ring of traffic.
This photo just happens to be in Madrid, but you get the idea.So the question is:
Does my previous judgement of Barcelona and about location hold up?
Yes, I think so.
We like where we are in Barcelona, and by the time we leave, I may have ticked some more boxes, but for now, Madrid is still the winner for the cities.
But that’s just me. Others love this place, and so they should.
