Paging Mr Poldark

Thursday August 22

After a nice breakfast, we are heading out to find a few of the mining ruins that pop up in the background on Poldark on a regular basis.

First is a place called Wheal Coates, near the village of St Agnes. It’s on the opposite coast, but still only 30 odd minutes away. Same coast but south of Port Isaac, opposite coast to Halitosis.

We trust Gladys again, and again we are in one-lane roads for a time. But she does get us to pretty much the right spot.

Then it’s down south to another mine location. This time outside the village of Trewellard.

We do lunch in the local pub. Nice.

To get down here, we swept past a little Port town called Penzance. This would have been consigned by history to being just another also-sailed, had it not been for a little musical by a couple of guys called William and Arthur.

Oddly, the most outstanding thing you see in Penzance, is actually not Penzance. It’s nearby. It’s a place called St. Michael’s Mount. It’s an island with a fucking Castle on top. Bizarre. A causeway has been built so that at low tide you can walk to it, otherwise it’s a boat ride. Very cool.
