If you’ve been paying attention to the news, you would know that there have been extensive bushfires over here. We are now moving through some areas that have been touched by these events.
Photos from a bus window can’t do justice to the indiscriminate devastation that is the unique signature of fire.
Luckily, the areas we see were only lightly touched, obviously on the outskirts of one of the many fires.
I really do think that the word indiscriminate really does describe fire well.
We’ve all seen photos of a post-fire landscape, and we always expect complete devastation. Almost never. So often the is a house, a tree, a paddock of crop. Completely untouched. Surrounded by scorched earth. Standing as testament to chance, to luck, or perhaps to some divine roll of the dice.
