Went to Évora. Another walled city, home to a famous university.
There are walls, ruins and churches.
Found an air-conditioned restaurant for lunch. Al fresco just wasn’t going to cut it today. I’m already medium rare.
Inside another cathedral, monks had taken the bones from the unknown, unimportant and undocumented citizens who had been buried outside the walls, and build a chapel in their honour. It is called a bone church.
Then it was off to Monsaraz, on the border with Spain.
A fort on the hill, overlooking the river border.
The largest artificial lake in Europe was privately built here to provide drinking water, irrigation and hydroelectric power.
