Hahndorf

One of the reasons that Sarah wanted to come to Adelaide, was to visit the little German town of Hahndorf. I don’t know why. Just smiling and nodding.

So, like all transport on this side of the ditch, catching a bus to Hahndorf is pretty straightforward. The bus stop we needed was just around the corner from our hotel, so three minutes walk and we’re ready to go.

A very picturesque drive, which takes about an hour, mostly because of 127 stops along the way. Up and over the Adelaide Hills, and we’re there.

For some reason, Sarah was fascinated with the prospect of having a pork knuckle for lunch. It sounds hideous to me, but it apparently is the thing to do.

She had it a couple of times in Germany, and then in Prague

As it turned out, the Hahndorf Inn where we stopped for lunch, sells these pork knuckles, bat they are averaging 1 - 1.2 kg each. With a generous dollop each of mashed potato and sauerkraut.

It’s intended for one very hungry bloke, or an Insta couple.

As I wasn’t going to help with it, she thought better of the plan and we had some normal food. One fish and one soup.

An Asian girl at the next table ordered one, and spent most of her time photographing it.

When we got back on the bus, she got on as well, with a brown paper bag.

Anyway, it’s a cute little village. Worth a visit.

The bus back was a little traumatic. Clearly the speed signs on the winding road were merely a guide for this driver.

But we made it back in one piece
