Off to Shanghai

So that was it for Xi'an, and for the Wendy Wu tour. One full day, and off again.

We had to get ourselves to their first hotel in Beijing, and now we have to get ourselves to the airport in Xi'an.
Because this was always the plan, Sarah booked a flight with China Southern to Shanghai.
She also booked airport transfers with Viator.com.

We always bang on about Viator. This is the website where we prepurchase lots of things. Transfers, hop-on-hop-off buses, day tours, whatever. It's a good idea to use Viator just to see what is going on in the city you're aiming for. So often I find things that I never knew existed.

Because the flight was booked with China Southern, Sarah got a friend in Christchurch to look at seating. It was only then that we discovered that the ticket was a codeshare one. We are actually traveling on China Eastern again. A rooky mistake, but to be fair, the printed itinerary certainly doesn't specify the tin.

The hotels in China have a check-out time of 1200, so we arranged for the pickup at 1245.
The car was ready to go by 1200, so we got away early.
They had promised an English-speaking driver, but one wasn't available, so they gave us a translator to accompany us to the airport.
How good is that? Just a drive to the airport and they give us 2 staff. Love Viator. They really use good local operators.

Checked in, through security, and then a wander around waiting to board.

More napping pods

I saw this projector in a tech shop in the departure lounge. Looks like an old-fashioned film projector.
Another cool toy in the tech shop. A dehumidifier that looks like a 787 engine. Too geeky for words!
Both arriving and boarding in Xi'an we were at remote gates. Lots of buses backward and forwards. Both flights were A321s, so maybe they keep the airbridges for real planes.

The onboard meal includes hobbit bananas
